GOING BACK

So it’s been a few months since our Café blog and we thought we should go back and revisit these Café’s as well as have a look at a few more. So over the next month or two we are going to be revisiting our list and seeing if it’s still accurate or if it needs updating.  Plus it’s an excuse to drink more coffee and eat more food, both of which we love doing.

So first up…..

El Porteno Café

El Porteno Café in Tawa just made it onto our list last time.  It was one that we debated over for hours and thought that while it didn’t have the polish of an Olive or the consistency of a Maranui it certainly had potential.
El Porteno had the makings of a good café and it’s been great to go back there and see that the potential is being realised by its owner.  Lisandro is as passionate about his café as he is about his beloved Argentinian football team (Argentinians Love their football team believe me). The care that is taken in preparing the food and the attention to detail is fantastic.
Last time we mentioned the cheese scones and these are still some of the best you will get in Wellington, but it’s the new things they have added to the menu like the vegetarian quiche, the banana and chocolate muffins, and the Argentinian ham and cheese toasty that are the difference now.  They have also worked very hard on their coffee which now has the consistency of a great café.
El Porteno has moved on from our first review and now there is no debate.  This little café has turned from a rough diamond into a real gem as noted in a recent review by the regions weekend newspaper.  So if you are ever out in about around the Tawa region then El Porteno is well worth the visit.
